McCloud S. Understanding comics

Are you a fan of comic books? Or do you read only «real» books and assume yourself as too old for those colorful magazines? But… have you ever wondered, what is comics?

The answer is comic-ally explained here, in the comic «Understanding Comics: The Invisible Art» by Scott McCloud.

With more than 200 vividly illustrated pages, readers seem to graduate from an art school, professionally in «Sequential (visual) art» but we can still enjoy the book as an amusing artwork series thanks to Scott’s skillful, dexterous words-and-pictures arrangement.

Who knows that comics started its history in 1500s, long before the term «comic» appeared? Who thinks that comics is a distinction from art and literature? The more we read, the more we find it provoking to turn some more pages, wondering what will be another brand-new, interesting information that Scott wanted to let us know.

«Can emotions be made visible?» or «Can ONE sense speak for all FIVE?» (tension, intimacy, madness, pride, anxiety). These are not only our questions but the art-makers, comic writers or, as we usually call, artists also want to ask themselves. And after such a precious process, a comic book (which has both an entertaining plot and well-drown pictures) is born.
