The libraryis a dynamic system with a unique quality of being remarkably stable. And its main foundation is its extraordinary people – librarians. They lovingly create an environment of creativity and discovery for readers and visitors.

Our librarians strive to help with information search, diligently acquire necessary books, develop digital resource systems, provide consultations, and check out textbooks. They carefully preserve and digitize books, meticulously restore rare editions, and enthusiastically create exhibition spaces. Librarians can do so much and give even more; they discover new facets of their profession and generously share knowledge with others.

In 2025, 130 staff members of the TSU Research Library welcomed readers over 188,000 times, checked out nearly 61,000 physical documents, and organized over 600 cultural and educational events.

The history of the holiday

The All-Russian Library Day was established by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation in 1995 and is celebrated annually on May 27. On this day in 1795, Catherine the Great founded the first state library in Russia, the Imperial Public Library. It is now the National Library of Russia in St. Petersburg. The establishment of the professional holiday highlights the significant contribution of libraries to culture, science, education and their essential role in a society.
